The hills across from Alpine Habtiats got a dusting of snow yesterday afternoon and it looks like there might be some more yet!

Brindabella Airlines and Aeropelican (who formerly flew Sydney to Snowy Mountains) have annouced a merger and advised that flights will resume starting 8th June 2012 which is fantastic news.  This means that our guests will be able to fly from Sydney to Snowy Mountains Airport, south of Cooma, in less than an hour.  Cars can be hired from the Airport to get yourself to Alpine Habitats.

In the joint press release, Brindabella Airlines and Aeropelican said “Starting on the 8th June 2012 the service will see 20 weekly flights, six days a week servicing the Snowy Mountains region during the busiest part of the year. Fabrice Binet, Chief Commercial Officer of the Canberra based airline group commented: “For our third winter operation we are offering flights as early as the 8th June 2012 to accommodate the early winter school holiday calendar; in addition we are committing to apply a similar fare policy to contribute to the competitiveness of the Snowy Mountains winter holiday product.”

The Snowy Ride is a motorcycle event run annually in the Alpine Region of NSW with the aim of involving motorcycle riders from all over Australia to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research.

It is also an opportunity for riders to enjoy a weekend away with their friends and family and to ride some of Australia’s best and most picturesque roads.

The first Snowy Ride was launched in 2001 as a request from Steven Walter, a young man who lost his fight against cancer. Steve loved motorcycle riding and asked that a charity motorcycle ride be organised to raise funds for cancer research and cancer care, “So that one day no other kid will have to go through what I’ve been through”.

The 7th annual Snowy River Festival will be held at the fabulous new location of The Station Resort, on the outskirts of Jindabyne, during the weekend of 4th – 6th November 2011.

Riders will battle it out for the R.M. Williams 2011 Snowy River Stockman’s Challenge title, whilst a programme of action-packed and entertaining events runs across the three days.  There will be bush poetry, High Country art, tent pegging, the Australian Lighthorse, Clydesdales and Walers, mountain brumbies, country music and much, much more.  A special feature will be dedicated to the Packhorse throughout the weekend.

This years 38th annual Yamaha / Freshwater Fishing Snowy Mountains Trout Festival will be run from Saturday the 29th of October to Friday the 4th of November 2011.  The last weigh in time will be 10am on Friday morning.

“Well the Grasshopper hates to be wrong, but he is going out on a limb to throw up the following for September:

1. We will get a strong, active cold front move through in the first half of September, bringing more than 20mm of rain, followed by 10 to 20cm of snow, possibly more. Confidence about 75 per cent.
2. We’ll have more snow at Spencers Creek on September 15 than we do on September 1. Confidence about 60 per cent.
3. The major resorts will still be going strong come closing weekend on October 3, with Spencers Creek snow depth still over 80cm. Confidence 90 per cent.

The Wild Brumby Schnapps Distillery and Knickerbocker Restaurant play host to a great weekend of fun and music mischief with the Marvellous Miz Demeanours.

Described as a little bit jazzy with some cheeky blues, quirky pop and solid soul with a dash of theatrics, this thoroughly entertaining group will perform a Dinner Show at the Knickerbocker Restaurant, Thredbo on Saturday 1 October. Starting off with the famous Wild Brumby Schnapps and canapés followed by main course and show, it promises to be a great evening!

These ladies are friends in life and a force on stage with their great harmonies, songs and magnetic energy just make you feel so good. All are performers in their own right with their own bands, and they have performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, National Press Club and at various jazz and blues music festivals.

Come Sunday afternoon at the Wild Brumby Scnapps Distillery, the Marvellous Miz Demeanours go into concert on the lawns of the Distillery for a great afternoon of more music mischief and even more songs. The Snowy Hydro snow depth at Spencers creek is now 158.9cm – the deepest at this time of year since 1990. In the last seven days Perisher has recorded 139cm of new snow. The NSW ski resorts snow fall has just been terrific.
