The trout hatchery breeds Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout along with Atlantic Salmon for release into local waterways for recreational fishing.  They run guided tours at 10am and 3pm each day and if you purchase the food, you can hand feed the fish – there are some huge ones in the holding ponds. 

At different times of the year you can see the trout in vaious stages of development, from eggs to fingerlings to young fish and the breeding stock.

There are BBQ’s and a picnic area beside the Thredbo River adjacent to the hatchery and this is a great spot to spend some time.  There is no fishing permitted in the Thredbo River adjacent to the hatchery and as a result wild trout can often be spotten.  For more information on the hatchery have a look HERE (http://www NULL.dpi NULL.nsw NULL.gov NULL.au/fisheries/recreational/info/fish-stocking/gaden).
