If you arrive in the afternoon, take a stroll around the Alpine Habitats Eco-walk. You can veer off this track and visit the Threbo Valley Distillery and sample some of their Schnapps. They run a cafe style menu (http://www NULL.wildbrumby NULL.com/cafe/) so you could grab an early dinner (they usually close around 5pm) or an afternoon snack, cookie or cake for the kids?
For Dinner try Crackenback Cottage just over the Alpine Way or Knickerbocker (http://www NULL.theknickerbocker NULL.com NULL.au/) if you feel like a drive to Thredbo. If you are self catering, cook up a BBQ on the balcony then pop on one of our latest release in-house movies for the kids and have a quite drink on the balcony watching the sun set, hopefully you might spot a Kangaroo or some other wildlife getting around.
We can arrange a breakfast hamper to be in your room when you arrive of you can self cater unless you want to eat out for breakfast. After breakfast if the weather looks good, head up to Thredbo and catch the Kosciuszko Express (http://www NULL.thredbo NULL.com NULL.au/activities-and-events/summer-activities/chairlift NULL.asp)chairlift to the top of the hill then have brunch or lunch at the Eagle’s Nest Cafe. In winter you will need snow gear to do this but it is still great fun. Other than in winter and depending on the age of the children, you could walk the first part of the track to Mount Kosciuszko where there is a lookout – it is about 2km each way.
Catch the lift back down and go bobsledding (http://www NULL.thredbo NULL.com NULL.au/activities-and-events/summer-activities/bobsled NULL.asp), its fun for all ages. Lunch on the balcony of the Bistro in Thredbo Village is always a good option or icecreams from the shop below.
That might be enough for the day or you could start heading back and drop in to Ngario or Thredbo Diggings – both are beautiful picnic areas on the Thredbo River. On the way back down, drop into Lake Crackenback Resort and try a Segway EcoTour. These suit ALL ages
That evening you could try a restaurant in Jindbyne or Thredbo or Cuisine on Lake Crackenback - they have a kids room there. If you want to go without the kids, try Little Brumbies Nanny Service and arrange for Antoinette to come out and look after them.
Next morning do a 10am (also runs at 3pm) guided tour of the Gaden Trout Hatchery (http://www NULL.dpi NULL.nsw NULL.gov NULL.au/fisheries/recreational/info/fish-stocking/gaden)where you can learn about breeding trout and feed some of the huge ones they have in ponds there. Afterwards there is a great park in the middle of Jindabyne and a skate park if the kids brought their bikes, scooters or boards or you can picnic/BBQ beside the Thredbo River at the hatchery.
Take a loop drive to the Snowy Vinyard and Micro-brewery (http://www NULL.dpi NULL.nsw NULL.gov NULL.au/fisheries/recreational/info/fish-stocking/gaden)near Dalgetty, they have a cafe where you can have lunch while this kids play in the grounds or the kids room they have there.
If you don’t mind a longer drive do the big loop to Yarrangobilly Caves and see the Big Trout in Adaminiby on the way back. This will also take you past Tom Groggin whcih is a great spot for a picnic or BBQ. In winter you may need snow chains for part of this drive and on occasions the road is closed if the snow is too deep and has not been cleared.
You are always welcome to contact us and discuss other options as the above is only a suggestion!
